The Ten Types of Propaganda |
Loaded words
Loaded language (also known as loaded terms or emotive language) is wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes. In simpler terms, it is simply an attempt to use words that cannot be supported by solid evidence. This poster of Barack Obama is a clear example of loaded words. The poster has two simple aspects, a photo of Obama and one term; "hope". However, the poster does not tell us anything else, neither about how supporting Obama will mean hope, nor about how we will get hope by supporting him. As the expectation for an explanation is gone, it enables the people whom are making Obama's campaign to put in random, effective words that manipulate people's emotions in efforts to relate a piece of imagery to Obama. Loaded words is a very effective propaganda technique as it deals with words that can be very convincing, emotional, or etc. and as a result, is one of the most commonly abused forms of propaganda.
