The Ten Types of Propaganda |
Card-stacking
Card-stacking is a propaganda technique used very widely where it seeks to manipulate audience perception of an issue by emphasizing one side and repressing another. In easier words, it is a propaganda technique in which only the good sides are shown. In this example, the competition between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama is in display during the presidential election prior to Obama's second term. Although it is obvious that Obama should have more followers due to his past term, that fact is ignored, giving a unjustified comparison with Romney only in the fields in which Obama is strong in, awareness. And the statement, "Barack Obama is streets ahead of Mitt Romney" contributes to the card-stacking Obama's supporters and advertisers have done. Although social networking is one part of the popularity of the two candidates, it is used as if it is the final straw in deciding the overall popularity of the candidates.
