The Ten Types of Propaganda |
name-calling
Name-Calling is propaganda technique used to smear the opponent’s reputation with the audience. It can be used to gather support for an issue, gain opposition against a competitor, and boost one’s product higher than regular competition. However, the names being used to label a person or a product may not be true. In name-calling, statements can be fabricated and although some may be true,we cannot interpret the credibility of the claims. In this example, Obama is being called a hypocrite without any specific reason. The only statement behind the claim that he is a hypocrite is supported by the following, "But he is just another ELITIST", which is a additional play on words. Evidently, this name-calling example is stated without any justification to back up the criticism and therefore may sound foolish. However, It is very surprising about the number of people that are affected by this propaganda technique.
