The Ten Types of Propaganda |
Plain Folks
Plain folks is a propaganda technique which is used very commonly in political campaigns or to make the people or groups that seem intimidating and "unreachable" seem friendlier. In this image, Barack Obama is shown to be playing basketball with a couple of enthusiastic kid, in a very protective stance. Obama is portrayed to be a part of the "next-door kids" enjoying another game of basketball. As a result, the audience will begin to perceive the President of the United States; a world leader, someone situated so high up in the social chain, someone recognised as the most influential man in the world, as a human being capable of doing things that plain folks do. This image is in fact a statement saying that this person of grand position is in fact a normal human being with a simple title. The purpose is obvious; because as people see others like themselves, they grow a sense of affection, which will benefit Obama's image during his campaign as a representative of the people.
