The Ten Types of Propaganda |
Stereotypes
There are two overall different types of propaganda by stereotyping. One would be the belief that all people within the same racial, ethnic, or cultural; group will act alike and share the same beliefs and attitudes, and the other would be an exaggerated belief that can be either positive or negative but generalizes without allowing for differences. This magazine cover is a perfect example of the stereotyping of Barack Obama. The words "black" and "cool" are the most significant in this image as it goes along with a regular societal generalization that all black people are "cool". And by implying this image on the president, the sellers of this product is attempting to appeal to the audience with the stereotype that all blacks, including Barack Obama, are cool, therefore making the product seem enhanced. The implication of this stereotype may or may not appeal to the audience in many different ways. For instance, if a individual with a very sensitive racial view would say that this is not just stereotypical but also racist.
