The Ten Types of Propaganda |
testimonial
This example is different from the other images displayed in other pages. It is an example that uses Barack Obama to promote a program other than to use the ad to promote Barack Obama. As stated on the poster, Obama approves and sponsors this program, evidently showing his support. Advertising via testimonials is a company’s ability to portray an image of a product by associating a famous individual's face and capitalizing on that star’s reputation by tying it to their own product. This is seen daily in almost all television and print advertising as well as political elections. And since Barack Obama, a well-trusted representative of the United States is supporting this program, the audience begin to portray this program as something related to the representative values of the President. Therefore, people with good reputations are often paid to serve a testimonial to advertise a certain product or to portray a positive image.
