You are watching a speech. In this speech you see the American flag waving in the background. Upon seeing the flag you feel a great sense of patriotism and note how great the American flag is. You then see Obama. You subconsciously think that the the person is as awesome or important as the American flag. You see what happened there? This image convinced you that the emotions you feel while seeing Obama is the same as when you see the American flag. This is a propaganda technique called transfer. With this technique the "subject" is made to seem better by showing associating with things that people know; such as love or respect. And a great example of these things would be the American flag Transfer is most popular in political ads, that always use the American flag so that the voter will associate the candidate with the American flag, and therefore America, to increase their tendencies to vote for the candidate.
